Sotagliflozin, a new drug for type 1.1 diabetes, is being submitted for marketing application in Europe.

Recently, Senofi (Sanofi) announced that the European Medicines Agency (EMA) has accepted the application of regulatory sotagliflozin for its new diabetes drug. If approved, the drug will be used as a supplement to insulin therapy to improve glycemic control in patients with type 1 diabetes.

Sotagliflozin is a drug developed by Sanofi in collaboration with lexicon pharmaceuticals, a partner of Wuxi Pharmaceutical Group. It is a dual oral inhibitor, targeting sodium glucose cotransporters type 1 and type 2 (SGLT1 & SGLT2), which are responsible for glucose regulation. SGLT1 is responsible for glucose absorption in the gastrointestinal tract, while SGLT2 is responsible for glucose reabsorption in the kidney. In clinical studies, sotagliflozin has shown that it can effectively improve blood glucose control in patients with type 1 diabetes and reduce the demand for insulin during meal time.

The application submitted to EMA is based on data from the inTandem clinical trial. The trial consisted of 3 3 phase clinical trials, assessing the safety and efficacy of sotagliflozin in about 3000 adults with type 1 diabetes. The results showed that after oral administration of sotagliflozin for 24 weeks, the time when the blood glucose level was in the target blood glucose range (70-180 mg / dl) was significantly increased compared with the placebo group.
